The reason we hear sounds is that things in the environment are vibrating, such vibrations create a pressure wave of compressions and rarefactions as it passes through the surrounding air to our ear. These vibrations are what make all the sounds we love, music, laughter. That said, sometimes these sounds become too loud that the can make us uncomfortable and even hurt our ears. Decibels– Sound levels are commonly presented in decibels. Decibels give us a measure of the power of the sounds.
